Pet-Friendly Cafes to Visit in Ventura

One of my priorities when visiting somewhere new is checking out the cafe scene, and I was extremely impressed by the selection presented to me while in Ventura, a city situated in southern California. If you’re looking for good coffee, friendly service, and pet-friendly seating, then consider checking out these cafes while you’re exploring Ventura:

Immigrant Son Caffe

This cafe offers an array of Italian-inspired dishes and is a must-visit if you’re a fan of breakfast. I loved that there were options for indoor and outdoor seating with pets even being welcomed indoors. The breakfast I had at Immigrant Son Caffe was probably my favourite meal during my time in Ventura, and I loved everything from the fresh orange juice to my breakfast carbonara’s edible bread bowl. My mom opted to get the Giovanni omelette and was so impressed by the flavours that she was still talking about it days later. According to her, it was the best omelette she’s ever had, and knowing how much she enjoys breakfast I’d say that’s a huge win for this cafe!

Alongside great food, Immigrant Son Caffe offered relaxing vibes perfect for an afternoon brunch. The service we received was also above-and-beyond as our server was very attentive and friendly. I also really appreciated it when we saw the owner of the cafe (or at least that’s who I assumed it was) going around and checking in with each table to chat about their morning and make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. Small gestures like that really show that an establishment puts a lot of thought into what they do and cares for the community!

Palermo

Situated in downtown Ventura, this espresso bar offers a wide selection of treats including locally roasted coffee beans, lemonade, gourmet chocolates, artisan gelato, and shelves of unique gifts. I was particularly impressed by the different types of chai available at Palermo and had a fun time browsing the various items for sale at the back of the cafe.

You can choose to sit inside and enjoy the moody atmosphere or lounge in one of the chairs setup just outside the shop. Pets are also welcome here, so don’t hesitate to stop by. Overall, this would be the perfect stop for those wanting to pick up a little gift for someone (or yourself), whether its a sweet treat or something more lasting like locally made products, jelly cat plushies, greeting cards, or candles.

Palm & Boy Coffee and Acai

We have to start off by offering a shoutout to this cafe for being extremely friendly and understanding! When we came to enjoy one of the drinks at Palm & Boy, Perseus somehow slipped out of his harness and made a sprint for the stairs, spooking one of the baristas who was coming down. We were super embarrassed and apologetic for his unannounced appearance, but we were met with laughter and smiles despite what could have been a huge problem.

Thankfully, this is another great pet-friendly establishment and so Percy was warmly welcomed even though he was being a bit of a menace that morning. This trendy cafe offers quality coffee and fresh acai bowls made from local ingredients. There is plenty of seating outdoors in a courtyard filled with greenery, and we’ve also been told that Palm & Boy offers tasty breakfast options for those who are vegetarian or vegan which is a cool bonus!

Café Nouveau

Next up is another solid breakfast cafe with super friendly servers: Cafe Nouveau offers a good selection of sweet and savoury breakfast options. Even better, you don’t have to stress about choosing between pancakes or eggs when you dine here because the cafe offers breakfast combos that allow you to enjoy the best of both worlds. The portions here are also huge, so make sure you arrive hungry!

We opted to enjoy the morning sun and sat outside on the patio, but there are also plenty of seats indoors. There are heaters and fire pits available for much of the outdoor seating if you’re worried about getting cold, and of course pets were welcome to sit at the table.

Café Ficelle

This family-owned cafe and bakery offers a relaxing atmosphere and some dangerously good pastries. Good luck trying to decide what to order once you come face to face with the pastry display case because the options are plentiful and I honestly wouldn’t judge if you chose to grab a croissant and a tart to enjoy. The lattes at Café Ficelle are quite good, but the French sodas were the real star of the show, and I’d highly recommend trying one if you’re looking for a refreshing drink.

While pets are not able to be seated inside, you are more than welcome to take advantage of the patio seating after you’ve put in your order. There are also a few outdoor seats just at the entrance of the store if you want to be a bit further away from the main road.

Simone’s Coffee & Tea

Early riser and need your morning coffee? Simone’s Coffee & Tea is the ideal stop for those wanting to support local. Open nice and early at 6:30AM, this coffee shop offers a range of artisan coffees and teas alongside a selection of pastries and breakfast sandwiches.

The baristas are nice people and there is some cozy seating available for anyone who is looking to sit down and get some work done.

Frontside

For those looking for an aesthetic and tasty brunch spot, head on over to Frontside Cafe. This gem of a cafe has a clean aesthetic inside alongside plenty of outdoor seating for those looking to enjoy the sun. The cafe offers a good selection of breakfast and lunch options including options like Japanese milk bread, Aussie meat pies, and lemongrass beef bowls.
